American violinist Holly Nelson is no stranger to blurring the lines between music, art and theater. In 2010, she presented the premiere of Rashaad Newsome’s piece FIVE at the Whitney Biennial, alongside Grammy award-winning opera singer Stefanos Koroneos, as both violinist and performance artist. In 2014, she toured Switzerland and Luxembourg as a member of the Lucerne Festival’s Young Performance Ensemble, an avant-garde group merging contemporary performance practices, theater and improvisation. The ensemble premiered Tod Machover's piece, FENSADENSE. Sought after as a recitalist for contemporary music, Ms. Nelson has had the honor of giving many premieres. In 2012, as part of a concert curated by Pullitzer Prize-winning composer David Lang, she performed the debut of Jherek Bischoff’s Works for String Sextet. In 2017, as a Contemporary Ensemble violin fellow at the Atlantic Music Festival she premiered 22 pieces for duo, trio and pierrot ensemble.
Holly has performed as a soloist and chamber musician throughout the United States, as well as in Switzerland, France, Austria, Germany, Taiwan, Canada and China. In addition to her interests in contemporary music and jazz, Ms. Nelson is also fascinated by historical performance. She currently performs with New York City based period ensembles including The Sebastians, Clarion Music Society and Project Amadeus.
